What it is

What an ATEX consultant does

ATEX consulting is practical advisory work on explosion protection: making sure your zones, equipment, inspection and documentation actually line up with the standards and the reality on site. As an independent ATEX consultant I don't sell equipment — the deliverable is honest, prioritised advice you can act on, whether that is a single opinion or ongoing support.

Scope

What the consultancy covers

Hazardous area classification

Defensible gas and dust zones (0/1/2, 20/21/22) that drive every downstream decision.

ATEX / Ex inspection

Periodic inspection to IEC 60079-17 — visual, close and detailed — with a photo-documented report.

Explosion Protection Document

EPD preparation and updates, built on real classification and field condition.

CompEx certified inspection

Certified competence, applied practically to your Ex equipment.

Interim & project support

Hire an ATEX consultant for a turnaround, project or a defined gap — offshore, onshore or industrial.

By industry

Oil & gas, chemical, pharma, printing, wood & paper, food, biogas & wastewater.

How it works

How the ATEX consulting works

Talk it through

A free online needs assessment: your site, technology, zones and what prompted the review. No obligation.

Scope & agree

A clear, individually agreed scope and fee — focused advice or a broader engagement, whichever fits.

Do the work

Remote review or on-site inspection, documented as I go, with findings prioritised by risk.

Act on it

A report your team can schedule against — plus support for audits, insurers and duty-holder questions.

Why independent

Why an independent ATEX consultant

No conflict of interest

No equipment or repairs to sell — the advice serves your safety and budget, not a product line.

Field-first

25+ years hands-on E&I work, including 20+ years offshore and onshore oil & gas — advice that fits real operations.

Correct on compliance

Inspection to IEC 60079-17; repairs handled to IEC 60079-19 with approved methods and parts, or coordinated with an authorised repairer.

Talk to an independent ATEX consultant

Tell me about your site — the technology, whether flammable gas, vapour or dust is present, and what has prompted the review. I’ll reply within 1–2 business days with a tailored response or a free online needs assessment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an ATEX consultant and an inspector?

They overlap: as an ATEX consultant I advise on classification, documentation and strategy, and as a CompEx-certified inspector I also carry out the Ex inspection itself. You get both from one point of contact.

Do you work internationally?

Yes. Advisory and document work is delivered online worldwide; on-site inspection is across Europe, with oil & gas offshore and onshore as the core experience.

Can I hire you for a one-off opinion?

Yes — a single review, second opinion or scoped piece of ATEX consulting is fine, with no long commitment. For larger needs see interim and project support.
